Artist Illustrator II or Marketing Specialist — Development Media Branch, Alabama Department of Public Health
The new hire will be given tasks by the Branch Director and funding programs. He/she will not be micro-managed and will be given the freedom to take initiative in maintenance issues associated with the website. In addition, any ideas for promoting programs, implementing new technology, potential health partnerships, and content development are expected and welcomed.
Most importantly, the applicant needs to be able to work independently, take initiative (but be open to guidance and feedback), and display good judgement. He/she will be flexible, adaptable, and detail-oriented.
Details:
- Participates in the development of Internet marketing strategies to assure that the graphic and multimedia elements are included from the outset to assure most efficient production and highest impact for marketing campaigns and activities
- Leads the content management system training program for all designated website editors and reviews all web page submissions for adherence to formatting and style guidelines
- Develops graphic design and multimedia concepts to provide most effective communications package for information delivery to various populations
- Monitors branding on all graphics and multimedia products to assure consistent, appropriate imagery and recognition/recall of message
- Researches and creates culturally specific illustrations library to assure provision of appropriate artwork for marketing and educational materials
- Directs creation of original photography to fill cultural needs requirements to meet marketing requirements
- Creates websites, CDs, DVDs, educational games, and other form of electronic information technology to provide interactive tools to meet special populations needs
- Creates headline copy and tags and edits short body copy to assure best impact of visuals and text
- Researches and writes reports on Branch activities and output
- Researches and recommends monthly campaigns and social media and provides production, placement, and cost information
- Researches and recommends Internet and other electronic marketing to support agency "green" efforts
Skill Set:
- Ability to write press releases, reports, and basic copy. Editing skills essential.
- Proficiency in Adobe CS2/CS3, preferably CS4, particularly with Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop, and Illustrator
- Experience in video creation and editing
- Basic programming knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Desired: XHTML, DHTML, XML, RSS, Actionscript, ASP.net
- Website creation and maintenance, including graphic design
- Blog setup, customization, and design

Web Designer — Alabama Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation
This is responsible work assisting in the coordination of public relations activities through the Public Information Office of the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation. Employees in this class are responsible for promoting public awareness of mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance addiction illness through the department’s web site and other media in conjunction with the strategies and projects developed through the Public Information Office. Employees work independently and receive supervision from the Director of Public Information for the Department.
Qualifications are as follows: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Graphic Arts, Web design, or a related field with some (12 months or more) experience in Web design, Graphic Design, Public Relations or Media. Significant school related projects and/or internship may be allowed as substitution for work experience.
